Paulo Siqueira! Learn the name, Spider-Fans, for in just ONE (1) week, he, Dapper Dan, Bodacious Bob and Mercurial Marc shalt rock thy world.

Howdy, folks, Brennan here. It appears my penance for leaking some of our plans for next year is to write up a piece as if I were a soulless, company line-towing lackey. But I have a soul.

So I loaned my soul to my friend Christophe for the week. He’s playing racquetball with it at the gym right now. With that in mind, ladies and gents, let’s give you a little preview of next week’s ASM564!

As the Thrice-Weekly Amazing kicks off its second half (18 issues in and we’re not even in August yet?! How? HOW?!), we do so by shaking up our formula. So far, we’ve given you one of our Boisterous Braintrust writers (Gale, Guggenheim, Slott and Wells) and a Household name of an artist, the likes of Steve McNiven, Chris Bachalo, Phil Jimenez and Barry Kitson (not to mention a Larroca, Martin and McKone sprinkled in there as well), but for our extra special July opener, we wanted to do something a bit different.

FIRST! You’re going to see one story from three different perspectives, as a car chase ropes in Spider-Man, Swing-Shift bad guy Overdrive and Officer Vin Gonzales, the Bert to Pete’s Ernie (meaning roommates, not that ridiculous rumor about Bert and Ernie. Although we’d still love them just as much otherwise) Marc’s handling the Spidey Chores, Bob brings us Vin’s take and Dan wraps it up with Overdrive’s interrogation by the monochromatic megalomaniac Mr. Negative.

SECOND! We’re going with a fresh-face to our Spidey game, Mr. Paulo Siqueira. You might have seen him do some stuff for the Distinguished Competition, but now he’s leading the way for a Spectacular Summer of Sensational Spider Stories coming to your Friendly Neighborhood Comic Shop. (Web of…?) You’ve already gotten some hints of KRAVEN’S FIRST HUNT and NEW WAYS TO DIE, but Paulo starts us off with a lighter mood before the dark times ahead.

THIRD! What’s Dan Slott think of the issue, you ask? Oh…you didn’t ask? I did? That’s what happens when the Public Relations Parasite takes over your keyboard. In any case, here’s Dan “Dan” Slott on Paulo’s art:

“Paulo Siqueira’s art on ASM is a thing o' beauty. When Paulo's drawing him, Spidey doesn't just leap, flip, or swing from a thread-- he puts on an amazing display of aerial acrobatics that'll just blow you away!”

(Dan asked me not to let you know that originally, he wrote “…that'll blow just you away!” at the end of that quote. Don’t worry, Dan!)

So next week, get set for a take(s?) on Spidey you’ve never seen before in THREE WAY COLLISION!

--Brennan

Nice Previews...

How awesome is it?
That Amazing Spider-man has gone down in sales every issue since Brand New Day began, and that Marvel has lost 40,000 customers since Jan.? So when does Marvel officially declare this new storyline to be a failure? Amazing Spider-man 546 sold 127,000, Amazing #560 sold 73,000. OUCH!

second half
when you say "second half" do you mean second half of the year or second half of brand new day???? thats just odd.

Jaguar8481,
I don't have the sales data, can you tell me how many copies were flying off the shelf pre-OMD? Do you have data on how many non-Civil War tie in Spider books were being moved?

Brand New Day...
...is freakin' fantastic if you ask me, which i realize you're not, but still... Best Spidey stories to hit shelves in years. Funny, fresh, action-packed, soap opera drama, even a little mysterious. Stories should leave you wanting more--not in a dissatisfied way, but more of a i can't wait until next week kind of way. I started collecting Spidey comics about eight years ago around the start of JMS's run on Amazing, and enjoyed them because i love the character. After a while, though, ASM became a drudge. Dark, depressing. Ideally when reading a spidey comic you should chuckle once at the very least during the issue. But during the whole back in black thing, ugh! With BND, this is really the first time i've been excited to pick up the new issues of ASM. I'm lovin' it. Keep up the good work, Dan, Marc and Bob. Lovin' the art, too. It always makes my eyeballs happy.
