Since M-Day, the future of mutantkind has become increasingly bleak. With the mutant population decimated to the point where a mere few hundred remain—and no new mutants have emerged or been born—hope for mutantity's future is hard to come by these days.
And though Beast's search to find a way to bring mutants back from the brink of extinction (in "X-Men: Endangered Species") has borne little fruit, it appears there may be light at the end of the tunnel.
A mutant has been born—the first mutant birth since Scarlet Witch depowered the bulk of mutantkind—and its arrival has set off a major chain of events, thrusting the X-Men into conflict with both the villainous Marauders and the mutant-hating Purifiers.
"Messiah CompleX," the 13-part epic running through UNCANNY X-MEN, X-FACTOR, NEW X-MEN and X-MEN, is the biggest X-event in a decade. Will the X-Men survive the war for homo superior's future?
